How to Ask Your PTO for Money

Are you looking for additional ways to raise money for your classroom? While DonorsChoose or sponsorships are a few great options, your school’s parent-teacher organization (PTO) might be the way to go! Two ways you can ask your school’s PTO for funding are by getting to know your PTO personally and creating a unique, compelling presentation that is relatable to your target demographic.
Get to know your PTO personally.
Typically, those involved in your PTO join it because they are interested in creating a better learning environment at the school their children attend. Every parent has a different idea of how the school can improve. If you want to make a convincing argument as to why they should care about your cause, then you need to get to know each PTO member’s core values and beliefs. Ask yourself, “How can I get the PTO members to allocate money to my specific cause?”
Create a unique, relatable presentation.
After you get to know the group’s individuals, start by writing down a list of reasons why you believe your cause is worthy of the PTO’s time and money. The more researched your presentation is, the more compelling your argument. Remember to keep your presentation short, so you do not draw attention from the main points of your argument. Make sure to include reasons your students would benefit from your request. Here is an example presentation that can help you get started!
By doing your research and getting to know your audience, you will be much more likely to secure the funds from your school’s PTO. Happy fundraising!
